The long-awaited comedy sequel, Good Burger 2, is now filming, with returning star Kel Mitchell sharing on social media a video of himself and co-star Kenan Thompson in character on set. The first Good Burger was released way back in 1997, leaving fans wondering if a follow-up would come out since then. Well, it’s finally happening, and there’s no doubt it will warm many hearts to see Kenan and Kel on screen together again.
“Ed and Dex are gonna shut it down,” Mitchell says in the video, which finds him back in the pinstriped Good Burger uniform. “Get ready y’all, this is going to be epic! Shout out to my sister [Jada Pinkett Smith]! Y’all just got a glimpse inside the Good Burger mobile! Cleo let me borrow her whip!”
The first Good Burger was created by a comedy sketch of the same name on the Nickelodeon series All That. The film stars Kenan Thompson as Dexter Reed, a 16-year-old high school student who, after wrecking his teacher’s car, is forced to get a summer job at a fast-food restaurant to pay for the damages. There, he meets Ed, played by Kel Mitchell, a lovable, innocent, dim-witted nerd who often causes Dexter all kinds of headaches.
While Good Burger was critically panned upon release, the film has since been lovingly embraced by audiences (for context, Good Burger garnered a ‘rotten’ critical score of 33%, but reviews It has a ‘Fresh’ score of 63% on aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes for those longing for the return of the adorably cute goofy duo.
Good Burger 2 will come almost 30 years later
Good Burger 2 begins with the pair twenty-six years after the events of the first film, and inventor Dexter Reed reunites with his co-worker Ed at his old workplace, Good Burger. The sequel will once again focus on Dexter Reed, who is down on his luck after another of his inventions fails. Ed welcomes Dex back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old job back. With a new crew working at Good Burger, Dex devises a plan to get back on his feet but unfortunately puts Good Burger’s fate at risk once again.
Directed by Phil Traill (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Last Man on Earth), Kenan Thompson promises more fun and more laughs when we return to the world of Good Burger for another bite. “I mean, [fans can expect] more laughs, you know. More fun. I think what people love about that original is how fun it is like we were seeing,” Thompson said. Said. “So, I think that kind of comes out off screen, and allows everyone to participate in that enjoyment. I’m just looking forward [to it]. Lots of bright colors, that silly Ed character.” Running around.”
The first Good Burger is now streaming on Paramount+, with Good Burger 2 expected to release and debut on the streaming platform in November 2023.
