CASPER, Wyo. — The US Geological Survey has confirmed a 3.7-magnitude earthquake has occurred Sunday night east of Casper and north of Glenrock.


The earthquake was recorded at 9:50 p.m. Sunday as occurring 21.1 miles east of Casper and 5 miles north of Glenrock at a depth of 11.3 km. There are numerous reports of the quake being felt in Casper and Glenrock.


According to a Michigan Tech seismology site, a 3.7-magnitude earthquake is classified as a “minor” quake: “often felt, but only [causing] minor damage.” The site estimates that there are 30,000 such quakes around the world each year.
